Tiger Woods wins Masters _ golf software companies

Ever since he was a young boy, Tiger Woods has carried with him the goal of breaking Jack Nicklaus’ record of most career Major Championship victories. It wasn’t that long ago that it seemed like a forgone conclusion that Woods would easily surpass Nicklaus’ career record of 18 Major wins. In fact, Tiger won his 14th career major at the 2008 U.S. Open and he was only 32 years old at the time. Tiger was on top of the world and was surely going to steal Nicklaus’ all-time Major crown at some point… until his life came crashing down. It’s well known that Tiger had many off-course transgressions that derailed his marriage, his career, and ultimately his life. Between off-course drama and his ongoing back injuries, Tiger barely played in any Major tournaments for many years. Even when he was able to return, most fans were simply waiting for the next injury to pop up and officially end his career. Tiger’s life long dream of becoming the all-time Major record holder appeared out of reach and nearly impossible.

Tiger’s Improbable Masters Comeback

For most of his highly anticipated comeback tour in 2018, Tiger played pretty good golf, but was clearly still trying to “find” his game. He came close to relishing in Major glory again in the 2018 British Open and 2018 PGA Championship, but failed to close with the killer instinct we had all come to know and love of Tiger. That all changed when Tiger officially announced his return to the golf throne when he put together a magnificent back-nine comeback to win the 2019 Masters. The Masters is Tiger’s favorite and most memorable tournament, so it was only fitting for him to end his Major draught at Augusta National. So now that Tiger has won a Major for the first time in over a decade, the spotlight turns directly back to Tiger’s hunt of Nicklaus’ Major record. Can he get? And if so, when will he break it?

Predicting Tiger’s Next Major Wins

2019 British Open

Many experts are making Tiger the favorite to win either the U.S. Open or the PGA Championship this year, as those tournaments are being held at courses that Tiger is notorious for playing well on: Pebble Beach and Bethpage Black, respectively. However, I think Tiger adds another major this year at the British Open instead. The British Open is always extremely difficult and the winning score is generally a few under par. Those grind it out tournaments are Tiger’s for the taking and he wins his 16th major this year.

2021 U.S. Open

It’s incredibly hard to win any Major golf tournament, but it’s especially hard to repeat at The Masters. In fact, I don’t foresee Tiger winning any Majors next season. But he gets back on track at the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines golf course in San Diego, California. Tiger is a So-Cal kid and grew up playing at Torrey Pines and it is one of his favorite courses.  He won the U.S. Open in 2008, just before his career downturn, and he gets redemption by winning his 17th Major.

2022 PGA Championship

Tiger comes roaring back from multiple strokes behind on the final day to win his 18th Major to tie Jack Nicklaus’ record. It’s an incredible victory and achievement for Tiger, but he is still on the quest to become the all-time Major champion.

2023 Masters Tournament

Jack Nicklaus currently holds the record for being the oldest Masters winner when he won the tournament at age 46 in 1986.  As poetic as it may seem, Tiger finally fulfills his lifelong quest in becoming the all-time Major champion back where it all began, August National. Tiger not only wins The Masters again for the sixth time but becomes the oldest player to ever win it at age 47.  Tiger wins his 19th major, a record that will never be broken again.

golf fans loud _ golf software companies

Not long ago, the biggest question that stumped PGA Tour executives was simply “how do we get a younger audience interested in professional golf?” Well thanks in large part to the incredible success of Tiger Woods throughout his career, golf popularity is at an all-time high. This popularity, however, has led to younger and much more rambunctious crowds along the PGA Tour stops. Now the PGA is dealing with a balancing act of making golf fun, but still maintaining the high level of integrity and class that the sport was built on. But can both co-exist? Here’s a look at what the players think of the increasingly larger and more boisterous PGA crowds.

Rory McIlroy Is Not A Huge Fan

Rory McIlroy is one of the most popular players on the tour and usually has a large crowd around him during his rounds. McIlroy generally has a great relationship with his fans, especially the many young fans that admire him. But it’s those same kids that attend these golf events to see their heroes in real life that makes McIlroy question the rowdiness of today’s crowds. Rory was recently quoted saying, “[i]f you’ve got guys that are shouting obscenities and swear words and stuff and there’s kids around, I think that isn’t cool.” It’s hard to argue with Rory on that point.

Justin Thomas Had A Fan Ejected

It’s crazy to think that you, as a fan, could be ejected from a sporting event like a golf tournament, but that’s exactly what happened for man who was heckling Justin Thomas last season. An obnoxious fan was yelling at Thomas that he hoped he would hit his tee shot in the water. After Thomas swung and the ball was heading towards the fairway, the man began calling for it to “get in the bunker.” At that point Thomas had heard enough and pointed the guy out to security and had him escorted out. I personally don’t think that was egregious enough to have a patron kicked out, but clearly Thomas has a different opinion. To each their own.

What About The Waste Management Open?

The Waste Management Open (also referred to as the Phoenix Open) is the biggest party in the golf world. Known for its infamous 16th hole, which is completely encompassed by three levels of stadium seating that holds over 40,000 people on that hole alone, it’s an experience unlike anything else ever seen in golf. For fans, it’s like a day-drinking, golf version of Coachella. For players, it’s like entering a scene in the classic golf movie Happy Gilmore. Surprisingly, most players actually like the raucous environment and embrace it. Keegan Bradley once said that “… you know you’re going to hear things during your swing and people are going to be crazy. But that’s one of the reasons this tournament is great.” Given that the Waste Management Open is the highest attended golf event in the world, topping out at over 700,000 people for the week, it’s clear the party and golf duo is a hit amongst golf fans.

Clearly there are differing opinions when it comes to crowd control and what should be expected of fans at PGA Tour events. The PGA Tour executives are certainly brainstorming ways that they can improve fan experience, while still maintaining the values of the sport. What side are you on? The fun side? Or the old-school side?

2019 Masters storylines _ golf software companies

We are now in the month of April, which means it’s time to start focusing on the greatest golf tournament on earth: The Masters. Besides watching the television coverage to enjoy the picturesque beauty of Augusta National Golf Course (it really may be one of the most beautiful places in the world), these are the big-time storylines that will make the tournament must watch T.V.

Can Patrick Reed Defend His Title?

In the extensive history of The Masters, there have only been three players that have won back-to-back Masters titles and they were Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and a young Tiger Woods. Patrick Reed surprised many with his Masters victory last season, but now as the defending champion he will have a target on his back for the rest of the field. Whether you love or hate Patrick Reed, it’s hard to deny his natural talent. Can Reed defend his title and quiet all of his boisterous haters? We will see soon enough.

Will Rory McIlroy Complete His Career Grand Slam?

The Career Grand Slam in golf is achieved when a single golfer is able to win all four of the major championships throughout their career. So far, Rory McIlroy has been able to take home the title in three of the four golf majors: U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and The Open Championship (i.e., British Open). The one major that has eluded him so far is The Masters.  Back in 2011, a 21-year old McIlroy carried a four shot lead heading into the final round, but he choked by shooting a final round 80 that ruined any hopes he had of winning. Now eight years later, can Rory finally slay his Masters demons and complete his Career Grand Slam? We wouldn’t bet against him.

Which Young Player Has The Best Chance To Surprise The Field?

It’s very rare for a young player to win The Masters. This is because Augusta National Golf Course is extremely difficult and rewards older players that have years of experience playing the course. It’s why older players like Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer and Ernie Els can still compete year in and year out at this tournament. But which young gun has the best chance to become a surprise champion? The obvious names are guys like Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, or Rickie Fowler. But keep your eye on Xander Schauffele in 2019. This will only be Schauffele’s second Masters tournament, but he has all the skills needed to win at Augusta National. Can he put it all together for four rounds to take home the Green Jacket?

Does Tiger Have Any Major Wins Left In Him?

Tiger Woods is arguably the greatest golfer of all time. Many old school golf experts, however, will point to Jack Nicklaus and his 18 Major wins as enough evidence that Nicklaus is the greatest ever. At one point in his career, it seemed unquestionable that Tiger would eventually pass Nicklaus on the all-time Majors list, but then Tiger’s injuries and off-course issues significantly derailed his career. In fact, Tiger won 14 Major titles from 1997 to 2008. However, Tiger has zero Major titles from 2008 to now. His health seems better and his game is improving, so can this be the year Tiger finally gets back to winning Majors? The 2019 Masters will be his first shot and it all gets started on April 11, 2019. Will you tune in to watch Tiger chase history?

knock off golf rust _ golf handicap software

Goodbye Jack Frost and hello Jack Nicklaus. Spring is finally here ladies and gentlemen, so it’s time to start packing up your winter jackets and pulling your golf equipment out of storage. If you’re like the majority of us, the snow and cold have prevented you from being able to hit the golf links for months now and you’re probably anxious to get back out there. Of course, after not playing all winter, your game is sure to be a little rusty. If you follow the following suggestions, however, you will be ready for the course again in no time.

Show Your Bag and Clubs Some Love

It’s probably been a while since you last touched a golf club, thus it’s likely that your bag is overdue for some sprucing up. Do a little spring cleaning by dusting off your bag and washing your clubs with a damp towel. Scrub out the grooves on the club faces with either a groove cleaner or a wooden tee. Not only will having a clean bag and clubs provide you with a little extra confidence, but in doing so, you will also have the opportunity to check your bag and see what items you will need to restock (i.e. golf balls, tees, gloves, etc.).

Go to The Practice Range

Don’t be surprised if swinging a golf club feels extremely foreign to you the first time you try it after a full winter of not playing; it’s completely normal. Golf is a game built around muscle memory, so it takes some time to re-engage those muscles and get the proper groove back in your swing. The most effective way to do this is to spend time at the practice range hitting balls until you start to feel comfortable again. Many amateur golfers skip the practice range and then wonder why they can’t break 80 or 90 out on the course. Well, practice makes perfect, so if you want to shoot lower rounds this golf season make sure you put the work in on the practice range.

Change Your Golf Spikes

Another part of the game that many people overlook is the condition of their golf spikes. Golf spikes aren’t just a fashion accessory to your golf wardrobe, they actually do provide a lot of grip and traction that allow you to complete your swing with balance. Our feet and legs give us the solid base that we need to perform a fluid golf swing so while you’re prepping for this coming golf season, take a few minutes and change your spikes (yes, the individual spikes can be changed out on just about any golf shoe). Many pro-shops also offer this service for a reasonable price as well.

Book a Tee Time!

The only way to truly get the rust off your game is to get out there and play! Tee times will be open soon, so be sure to check out MinuteGolf as spring rolls on for available tee times.
