Simple Putting Drills You Can Practice While at Home | golf software

Golf is a sport that requires a lot of practice if you want to consistently play well. One issue is that most of us don’t have time to spend an hour or two practicing every day. The good news is that there is a way to shave a few strokes off your score that doesn’t require going to the driving range to practice. It’s called putting practice! The best part about it is that you can practice putting anywhere. With winter right around the corner, the next few months will be crucial in ensuring you’re a better golfer for the 2020 season.

Below are a few simple putting drills that you can do for five to ten minutes in your home, your office and virtually anywhere else!

1. Quarter Cup

It’s as simple as it sounds. Place a quarter on the ground and use that as your target. Hit putts from different distances, but try to keep it within 10 feet for this drill. The point of this drill is to increase your confidence by changing your mental space over makeable putts. If you can hit a putt and drill a quarter, then you can certainly drain a putt in a normal size golf cup from that same distance. This drill will make the cup look like an ocean in your next round.

2. Left-Right-Center Drill

To perform this drill, you will need a putter, a few balls, and a target (i.e., a cup, piece of paper, etc...). Set the target about five to seven feet away and place a few balls down on the ground.  Start by gripping your putter with just your strong hand and perform your putting stroke one handed. Continue this until you can hit the center of the target at least five times in a row with just your strong hand. Once you do this, switch to your other hand and repeat. Practicing with one hand like this improves your hand-eye coordination and the consistency of your putting stroke.

3. Distance Control

This drill is designed to help improve your distance control from 10-footers all the way to lag putting. While this works best on a carpet, you can do this on any surface. The first step is to place a sheet of printer paper (8x11) on the ground, which will serve as your target. Then hit a few putts at the piece of paper from 10 feet and try to get each ball to stop on the paper. Then move back to 15 feet. Then to 20. Keep doing this for as far as you’d like or as far as your room allows. It may seem like a stupid drill, but it will improve your distance control dramatically.

4. Work on Your Tempo

One of the keys to golf, and especially putting, is tempo. If you have smooth and consistent tempo, you will start to see a lot more putts dropping throughout your golf rounds. To work on your tempo, simply grab your putter and start to swing it back and forth like you would a normal putt on the course. Then start to focus on the timing and be consistent with it. The smoother the better.

You can do these drills during commercial breaks while you watch your favorite show or take a five-minute break at work and perform these drills in your office. If you can do these drills consistently, you’ll improve dramatically over the winter and stun your golf buddies next spring. Happy putting!

GGGolf Participates in Recent BPG and CSCM Conferences | golf management software

GGGolf aims to share industry knowledge and better understand golf courses’ needs

While golf season may be winding down, that doesn’t mean GGGolf has slowed down. This month, GGGolf attended the Golf Quebec FundraiserTournamentThe Canadian Society of Clubs Managers National Conference and the 7th Annual BPG Buying Group Show. All events are valuable in allowing GGGolf to connect with industry professionals and assess where we can better serve the needs of golf courses. We also relished the opportunity to share what GGGolf’s plans are for the future.

About the CSCM

The CSCM is the biggest association of club managers in Canada, mostly representing private clubs. Not only does the CSCM cater to golf clubs, but also social, tennis, country and city clubs. This year’s event took place in London, ON.

GGGolf was present at the event with our own booth and it gave us an excellent opportunity to engage with club managers. GGGolf President Gilles Gauthier and Lise Beaudet, head of customer service, were both present at the conference. In attending and participating at the CSCM, GGGolf was able to gain a better understanding of emerging club management needs, the biggest challenges facing the industry and determine how we can help golf clubs moving forward.

About BPG

The 7th annual BPG Buying Group Show took place from October 15-18 at the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata, ON. This show allows golf pros and staff to discover and order the latest gear and apparel available for next golf season. The BPG Buying Group also held a gala rewarding the best pros, golf shops and suppliers in different regions around the country as well as an annual golf tournament. The GGGolf team consisting of Gauthier, Beaudet, Katherine Lauriault and Catherine Gauthier attended, along with Jodi Newfield, from GGGolf’s sister company DockMaster in West Palm Beach, Florida, to network with proshop managers and clients. It was a pleasure for the GGGolf team to meet with clients and all the other players from the Canadian Golf industry.

The BPG Buying Group consists of over 150 pro shops in Canada. The BPG group uses GGGolf to manage their members, billing and invoices.

GGGolf’s Purpose in attending CSCM & BPG

After having attended both these incredible events, GGGolf feels we’ll be better suited to serve golf courses with our golf management software next season and beyond.

“It’s very important for us to connect with our clients and prospects and listen to their needs,” says Gilles Gauthier, founder and president of GGGolf. “This is what allows us to offer the best products and services possible. We are proud to be active members of this great community that is the golf industry, and these events offer us the best way to do that.”

In wrapping up the 2019 golf season, GGGolf enjoyed another successful season in increasing our customer base and improving our existing products for our customers. We can’t wait for the 2020 golf season to arrive and keep improving our services.

Golf Mobile Apps That Golfers Should Download | Golf Tee Time Reservation Software

Golf is a timeless sport, but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been affected by society’s increasing need for technology. In fact, technology in golf has helped improve the game in many ways such as increasing distance via driver/golf ball advancements, improving distance control with laser guided range finders, and even allowed for fun places like TopGolf to help “non-golfers” enjoy the sport as well. One area that has particularly benefited from the ever increasing technological advancements is the golf mobile app industry.

In order to help you discover new ways to enjoy golf, we’ve looked into five trending golf mobile apps that every golfer should have saved in their phone. All five of these apps are free to download, so find some Wifi and see which app(s) is right for you!

Hole 19

The Hole 19 app is available to both Apple and Android users and might be the greatest GPS golf app on the market right now. Hole 19 provides you with accurate distances to the front, back, and center of the green so that you are always able to pick the correct club for the distance.  This app also provides a great scorecard to track your score and stats straight from your phone.

(Available in English and French)

Shot Tracer

We have all seen the shot tracer technology when watching PGA Tour events. You know the red line that follows the ball from contact to the ground so that us, the audience, is able to actually see the shot path. Well, the Shot Tracer app puts this technology in your hands via its smartphone application. Just take a video of your shot and let the app do the rest of the work. This is great to save videos with this and post to social media.

(Available in English & French)

V1 Golf App

The V1 golf app is arguably the best smartphone application on the market right now if you’re looking for a tool to help analyze your golf swing. This app allows you to take slow motion videos of your swing and use them to analyze your swing plane, body motions, and ball striking. With this app, you can also pay extra to have golf lessons sent directly to your phone, which is a great resource to have.

(Available in English & French)

18 Birdies

This is a great app in general for many reasons, but I’m including it on this list because of its easy golf betting settings. If you want to raise the stakes with your friend for your next round, simply open this app and pick your game and the application will help do the rest. This is a fun and easy to use app.

(Available in English & French)

But First...

While the apps listed here are sure to elevate your golf experience, you’ll need an app that will get you on the course more often, at the best possible rate. With the Minutegolf app (iOS or Android), you can reserve tee times from your mobile device, backed by the powerful golf tee time reservation software of GGGolf. The app is easy to use, allowing you to find tee times at golf courses all over Quebec and Eastern Ontario. By searching for golf courses by region, you can find a tee time that’s convenient for you, and closest to you.

Checklist for Storing Your Golf Bag as Winter Approaches | golf software

There are three words that scare both Game of Thrones fans and golfers alike: “Winter Is Coming.” Yes, given that unfortunately, we don’t live in a year-round golfing climate, those three little words can feel like a dagger to your golf game. With winter being an unavoidable part of life in Canada, it’s best to be prepared for it and that is why we have created an article to use as a pseudo checklist to go through when preparing your golf bag for winter storage.

Just follow these simple steps to help swap your golf bag for your winter coats.

Step 1: Give Your Golf Bag a Thorough Cleaning

It was a long, warm golf season and (hopefully) you enjoyed many pleasurable golf rounds during from spring to autumn. The summer months can bring some wear and tear to your golf equipment so it’s important to give it a good cleaning/inspection before putting it into storage for the winter. Yep, take everything out of your bag (clubs, balls, etc), and give everything a quick cleaning. This is a must-do because not only will it help keep your golf clubs in good condition, it will also provide you with a sparkling clean bag and clubs when spring rolls around. This also helps prepare you for Step 2.

Step 2: Take Some Golf Bag Inventory

When you take everything out of your bag to complete the cleaning in Step 1, use this time to do a quick inventory check of everything in your bag. Do you really need those old score cards?  Should you take your rain gear out in case you would like to wear some of it during the winter? Lastly, make a list of items that you need to restock so that you can take advantage of “off-season” prices by purchasing them during the winter.

Step 3: Don’t Forget Your Golf Shoes

Your golf shoes have surely added some miles this golf season, so be sure to show them some love before storing them as well. Do a deep cleaning now so that they remain in good condition when you grab them in the spring. Also, I always change my spikes before storing them so that they are ready to go when the next golf season begins. It’s all about efficiency.

Step 4: Keep Your Putter Out

If you’re truly dedicated to the game and coming back into next golf season even stronger, I would advise keeping your putter in the house along with a few extra golf balls. The reason for this is that putting is a skill that can be practiced virtually anywhere, including within the comfort of your own home.

Step 5: Put Everything into a Travel Bag

The final step I would recommend is putting everything into a single travel bag (the big cargo looking bags that you use to check your golf clubs onto a plane) to keep all of your golf related items in one convenient spot. Include your bag, shoes, equipment, and anything else you won’t need until next Spring. This style of storage will also keep your golf gear safe from unexpected inclement weather conditions.

You’re all set for the winter now. It may be depressing now, but just remember you will be back out in the sunshine and on the links in no time!

Things Golf Courses Can Implement to Ensure Customers Return for Another Round

Golf is a sport that is growing in popularity with the younger generation, but it is still a sport that is highly dependent on repeat customers. Golf courses are in constant competition with other courses for golfers of all levels and any advantages they can reasonably acquire should be considered. Implementing the right golf management software for a coure's operations certainly is a fine start, but what about what golfers will experience?

The purpose of this post is to provide golf course management and pro shop employees with three tips that they can implement at their course to ensure their customers want to return again as soon as possible. If you’re reading this as a golfer yourself, you may have some ideas of your own that you’d like to see more courses implement. You’re free to leave your thoughts with Minutegolf as well. For now, let’s get to a few ideas golf courses can execute to ensure more loyalty from golfers.

Host a Weekly Young Adults League

As mentioned above, golf is a sport that is growing in popularity with a younger crowd, including young adults. The mid-to-late 20s is a time in which many young adults want to enjoy a weeknight opportunity to socialize and network with their peers. A good way to get repeat customers is to host a weekly young adult golf league/happy hour that offers discounted rates and goes from about 2:30 p.m. to sundown. Not only will this crowd enjoy taking advantage of the discounted rates, they will love being able to golf with other young adults after work. If you can get a consistent group on a weekday afternoon, that is a major win for most golf courses.

Monthly Memberships

This is a concept that not enough golf courses take advantage of. If you know that your course is generally slower in certain months, it can be beneficial to offer monthly membership deals.  Most monthly memberships work as so: the customer pays a flat fee for the month and in return they are able to play unlimited golf rounds and access to free range balls. You can always qualify this offer by making limitations such as “unlimited golf after 2:00 p.m.” or something similar.  This not only helps build a loyal clientele with repeat business, it helps provide the course with guaranteed money for that month.

Offer a Discounted Rate for a Repeat Round

Many times 9 or 18 holes just isn’t enough for some golfers. It’s always a good idea for a golf course to have a “replay rate” on standby in case a golfer or a foursome wants to play the course again. This replay rate should again be discounted to show the golfers that you appreciate their business and to help incentivize their desires to play another round (i.e., golfers that are on the fence about playing another 9 or 18 holes will be more likely to choose to do so if they feel they are receiving a good value.

Conclusion

While every golf course is different and attracts a different clientele, the three tips listed above

are always great options for gaining repeat customers. The best part about the three options above is that they are also geared towards the more casual golfer, which is really the target market for attracting repeat customers. Avid golfers are less likely to need promotions/deals to attract them to fulfill their golf appetite. So the next time you’re brainstorming ways to attract more repeat golfers, you can always refer to this article to help stir the creative juices.

Practice Makes Perfect: A Quick Guide to Driving Range Practice | Golf Management Software

One of the reasons why professional golfers are so much better than us average golfers is that they hit hundreds (or even thousands) of balls on the driving/practice range every day. Not only do they hit an insane amount of golf balls, but they do so with a very guided purpose and strategy to help them continuously improve their game. While us average golfers don’t have to hit hundreds of balls at a time, we could emulate the professionals by using our time on the practice range with a guided purpose, as opposed to just trying to drill tee shots as far as we can. This article provides a very basic, yet proven guide to help make your next practice session more efficient and effective.

1. Perform a Quick Stretch

I know stretching for golf doesn’t seem necessary, but it actually can have an amazingly positive effect on your golf swing by adding extra flexibility and rotation. It can be as simple as doing some waist twist side to side and/or making circles with your arms to loosen your shoulders and forearms; really just any movement that helps get your blood flowing a little bit.

2. Start with Your Wedges

Some people prefer starting with a 7-iron or even jumping straight into driver, but I would recommend starting with a wedge and hitting a few pitch shots. Not only will the gentle swings used in a pitch shot help further warm-up your muscles, it is also the easiest way to get your hand/eye coordination started for the day. Hit about 8-10 pitch shots starting with half-swing and then work your way up to near full swing with the wedge.

3. Move to Your Short-Irons

This is usually the biggest bulk of your practice session and will incorporate your 9-6 irons. Again, start off with your 9-iron and then begin working your way down (numerically). These are the irons you will use the most often in every round, so take the time to really focus on making pure contact here. Remember, tempo is everything.

4. Time to Hit Long-Irons/Hybrids

Now getting into the part of the bag that many average golfers fear: the long irons (i.e. 5-3 irons).  There’s no doubt that long-irons are harder to hit than shorter irons, but if you can master this skill it can go a long way in improving your scores. Be sure to tee up a few balls when practicing your long-irons because it can be helpful to have confidence hitting irons off the tee on par-4’s if you’re struggling with the driver. Don’t fear these clubs… master them instead!

5. Let the Big Dawg Eat

When you’re towards the end of your practice session, it’s time to bust out the driver and/or woods. Be sure to pick a target area that can simulate a fairway on the driving range to help you determine if your accuracy is on or not. Hitting drivers can be tiring, however, so be sure to not over exert yourself.

6. Practice Greens

Once you dial in your driver, take the leftover range balls you have and head to the chipping green and hit some shots from a variety of different areas around the green. Focus on feel and distance control here. Lastly, head to the putting green and practice a few distances to get the speed down. Always finish your putting with five successful 3-foot putts in a row. It’s always helpful (and satisfying) to see the ball go in the hole.

That’s it… enjoy practice!

GGGolf Is Tagmarshal’s Official Canadian Supplier | golf software

In order to ensure that GGGolf’s customers receive the best possible golf software, it’s crucial to seek integrations with solutions designed to optimize efficiency and ultimately, boost courses’ bottom lines. That’s why GGGolf has partnered with Tagmarshal, a business to business golf technology solution that increases field efficiencies. It also turns pace-of-play into an asset for a better golf experience.

GGGolf is Tagmarshal’s official supplier in Canada, ensuring that all courses using GGGolf, whether private, semi-private or public, can optimize their course performance and boost their revenue.

How It Works

Tagmarshal player sidebar ipad | golf management software

Tagmarshal’s tracking system can be clipped onto golf bags, as well as on golf carts. Data from golfers’ tee sheets then gets submitted to Tagmarshal’s cloud servers, which is accessible to course management. GGGolf’s tee sheets are synchronized into Tagmarshal’s tracking system to ensure courses can better manage round times.

The system helps reduce average round times, enhances player experience, optimizes efficiencies and reduces costs. By reducing round times, courses can get more players on the course on any given day, which of course, will maximize revenue.

Public Courses & Resorts

trackmap round info | golf tee time reservation software

Public courses will often have less frequent golfers who don’t have the same sense of best pace-of-play practices that avid golfers do. That’s why their Public Course solution emphasizes pace of play and field flow. Even occasional golfers prefer a quicker round of play, and are far more likely to return to a course if the flow of the game is smooth. Tagmarshal’s solution helps courses control the pace of play on the course and using data and facts, courses can make better decisions on how to plan for days loaded with tee times.

According to a USGA survey, 74% of golfers say pace of play and flow is critical to enjoying their round, second only to course conditions, which was important to 82% of golfers polled. Thus, you can see just how critical maintaining a good flow and pace is to getting golfers to return to a course.

Private Courses

user management ipad | golf handicap software

While pace of play is crucial to public courses getting return golfers, that doesn’t mean loyal members of private courses don’t value it too. If golfers are committing to a private course for the season, they’ll be expecting a superior player experience. Tagmarshal’s Private Course solution specializes in meeting the needs of skilled, experienced golfers. This solution provides a similar goal in bringing round times down, while providing accurate data for player accountability. At the same time, the system is unobtrusive in its pace management and respects golfer traditions. As for the course’s benefits, the solution can promote a consistently lower average round time, which is sure to catch the eye of prospective members.

Tournament Track

player profile ipad | golf software companies

As any tournament operator will know, there are a lot of things to track in organizing a successful tournament. With Tagmarshal’s Tournament Track, organizers can now enjoy insights into pace management, player and tournament performances and real-time tracking of results. These all play a factor into players enjoying themselves and for organizers to gather and analyze data.

With this solution, organizers can optimize tournament efficiency, and use in-depth analytics to improve field management. The system was built with input from real golf professionals, making it one of the most advanced golf intelligence platforms available today.

The system allows courses to save staffing costs or volunteer requirements, which simplifies the organization of a tournament. The Gap Time Management feature plays a crucial role, as operators are given real-time insight into field pace management and gap time management between groups.

The reports and analytics available will give operators information to streamline pacing. Operators will also be able to oversee a player’s pace management.

Golf Cart GPS

Many course managers value golf cart GPS tracking and Tagmarshal’s GPS tracker empowers staff, management and players with objective data to better manage on-course operations. Most clubs simply go with basic GPS trackers, but Tagmarshal’s solution will truly help courses see the difference in just how efficiently a course can be run, no matter how busy it is.

Conclusion

GGGolf’s golf management software is ultimately meant to simplify golf courses’ operations and improve bottom lines. With this integration to Tagmarshal, golf courses of all levels can ensure that pace-of-play is always respected and thus, provide a better service to its golfers throughout the golf season.

How To Organize A Charity Golf Tournament | Golf Management Software

Charity golf tournaments are usually always a great time and for a great cause.  If you’ve played golf for a while now, surely you have played in a charity tournament or at least been invited to one. While charity tournaments are a blast to play in, have you ever wondered about all the hard work that it takes to organize one? Better yet, do you have a cause or project that you are interested in hosting your own charity/fundraising golf tournament for? Well, this article will try to help provide you some knowledge and tools to get you on your way to hosting a memorable golf outing!

Create a Budget and Find a Golf Course

The first step is to create a golf tournament budget, which should include the amount of cost that you feel comfortable asking people to pay to play in it. Once you have an estimated budget, the first step you should do is to contact a few golf courses to determine their tournament policies and what fees they typically charge (i.e., green fees, tournament fees, food and beverage, etc.).  The golf course tournament planner, if they are smart, will assist you by plugging your tournament information and ideas into a one-stop shop tournament organizing program, such as GGGolf’s tournament module.

Determine When You Want to Host the Tournament

Once you narrow down your list of potential golf courses, your next step is determining when your tournament will be held. The price is likely to fluctuate depending on different courses “high” and “low” seasons. Also, it’s important to choose a date at least 8-10 months away so that you have plenty of time to market your tournament and the guests can plan their schedules around it.

What Kind of Tournament Format?

While some charity tournaments feature individual stroke play (like a typical PGA Tour tournament), the majority of them use a “Four Man Scramble” format. This format is great because each foursome works as a team and it is more beneficial for high handicap players that might struggle on their own. Another perk, is this adds an incentive for your potential guest to buy a foursome, as opposed to just a single ticket, so they can create a whole team.

What are The Prizes?

Most charity tournaments provide some sort of prize for the top 3 lowest scoring teams (and sometimes the team that comes in dead last as well). These can be trophies, gift certificates (from sponsors), or anything you’d like. It’s also a good idea to include a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and putting contest to help increase the amount of donations to your charity.

Food & Beverage Choices

Most, but not all, charity tournaments provide a post-round meal included in the cost of a ticket.  Some tournaments provide free beer and wine as well, but that is more subject to the tournament atmosphere you’re trying to create.

Sponsors

One way to help finance and enhance your tournament is to work with local businesses or companies that are someway involved in the type of charity for which you are hosting the tournament. Selling sponsorships for each tee box (i.e., a company pays to have their sign/logo on the tee box) or having sponsored lunches is a great way to add more visibility for the tournament.

Obviously, this is just a starter list, but it should get the ideas flowing. So what are you waiting for? Go plan your tournament today!

As golfers, we tend to find a course we like and stick with it. However, to improve as a golfer, it’s important to play different courses. By playing on different courses that present new challenges, you can truly assess the weak points of your game and discover where your true strengths lie -- and Golf Vallée Des Forts will do just that in providing you with a truly unique challenge. This course is located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada and is undoubtedly the most beautiful course in the area.

The Course

Vallée Des Forts has a sweet location, as its par-72 championship course lies within a sugar bush. With four tee markers, the course stretches from 5,104 to 6,840 yards, depending on your skill level. Playing this course allows you to be surrounded by nature, where you can sink a birdie surrounded by flocks of ducks and geese, or tee off surrounded by graceful deer in the forested area. The beauty of the Montérégie region is on full display on Vallée Des Forts’ course.

As soon as you start playing, the first hole puts you to the test with a par 5 totaling 564 yards. Your tee shot is crucial, as the fairway is flanked by two strategically placed pits along each side of the fairway. If you can control your tee shot, you’ll be in a solid position to hit the green with your next shot -- fair warning, the green is adjacent to a small lake on the right with woods on the left.

The bottom line on Vallée Des Forts is that the course offers golfers quality playing conditions and a wide variety of services from their devoted staff. Booking a tee time at Vallée Des Forts is easy with Minutegolf, and tee time prices start as low as $17.32!

Golfer playing at dusk | golf tee time reservation software

There is nothing better than finding a great discount at a stellar golf course. Golf is an inherently expensive sport, so anytime you can save a few extra bucks when booking a tee-time you should take advantage of it. But many people don’t know where or how to find the best deals on tee times. If you’re one of those people, you’re in luck as this article will break down some of the simplest tips on how to book a tee time, without breaking the bank. Booking tee times at your convenience is easier than ever, thanks to GGGolf’s golf tee time reservation software.

If you follow some of the tips below, you will surely be able to play beautiful courses in your area on any budget.

Play During the Week

If you’re fortunate enough to be able to play golf on a weekday, you can find some killer deals on a lot of courses. Golf is a weekend sport, dominated by Saturday and Sunday tee times that leave the courses booked and/or in hot demand. But a lot of courses are looking for ways to attract people to play on weekdays by offering amazing discounted tee times. If you work during the week, don’t be afraid to take a day off so you can also score a great deal.

Minutegolf

Sticking to the best internet/websites to browse for tee time discounts, it’s also very helpful to peruse a sight like Minutegolf.com. Minutegolf is website that allows you the chance to browse at many different courses at once and find the best deals and tee times available at each one.  Many of the deals on Minutegolf’s website provide a 35-45% discount (sometimes more!), so you can save a real chunk of change. Buy a Limited Membership

Ever dreamed of being a member at a prestigious country club? Well if you’re trying to golf on a budget, the country club hopes need to be put on hold for a little bit, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get some of the perks of a golf membership.  Many golf courses offer local residents “limited membership” where for a certain one time or year-round price, you can get unlimited golf (or certain amount of free rounds a month) and range balls. These can be a heavy investment up-front, but usually end up being a sweet deal if you take advantage of it.

Book a Twilight Rate

With the long Summer days comes the perfect opportunity to play golf late into the afternoon hours. This tried and true way to play golf on a budget is always a great way to save some cash, so of course it was going to make its way on the list.  By booking tee times late in the day (usually tee-off sometime after 2:00 p.m.) you will obtain the cheapest tee time deals available. The only caveat is that you may not be able to finish all 18 holes. This is where it’s useful to keep your pace of play in mind. Regardless, afternoon twilight rates are a godsend for every budget golfer.
