Club de Golf Baie-Comeau - A Challenge For All Golfers | golf software

GGGolf has partnered with some of the best golf courses in Quebec, and Club de Golf Baie-Comeau certainly fits into that category. Baie Comeau’s course is situated in the heart of the city, and crosses both sides of the Amédée River. The bassin of this river makes up one of the most plant rich areas of the Côte-Nord region. If you love to play when surrounded by nature, then be sure to play a round at Baie-Comeau before this golf season ends.

The Course

Baie Comeau’s golf course was designed by renowned golf architect Graham Cooke. It was designed with the surrounding area in mind, particularly the surrounding river and the diversified wildlife in the region. Each hole offers its own unique challenge for golfers of all levels. While the course is generally flat, there are many parts of the course that slope downhill.

Golfers playing this course will have to account for 55 sand traps on the course. With 43 of those traps circling the greens, and 12 sprinkled along the fairways, playing with precision will be key. On top of the multitude of bunkers, there are 34 water hazards. That’s an average of nearly two per hole! Make no mistake, this course must be played with strategy, and your tee shot will be crucial in setting up a clear shot at the green. The “bent grass” greens await you.

The course’s 4th, 8th, 13th and 18th holes are particularly challenging, even by professional standards.

Baie-Comeau’s History

The club was founded in 1954 with a nine-hole course in Chute aux Outardes. Forty years later, the club opened an 18-hole course in its current location. It was a course design project  that took 10 years to complete, but it was worth it, with the course celebrating its 25-year anniversary this year.

Tournaments

There is no shortage of tournaments at Baie-Comeau, with several more to come before the end of the 2019 golf season. In fact, the Club Championship tournament will take place from August 24-25. The club’s closing tournament will come at the end of September, and there are several more in between.

Other Club Services

Baie-Comeau of course, is equipped with a beautiful pro shop, with customer service being their top priority. The pro shop has all the golfing equipment and attire you need. You can also take care of any equipment/cart rentals you may need, or sign up for the club’s tournaments.

Surrounding Area

With Baie-Comeau sitting 400 km northeast of Quebec City, you’ll likely want to make a weekend trip out of a visit to the Baie-Comeau Golf Club. Luckily for you, there are a number of attractions in the Manicouagan region. Baie-Comeau Golf Club will be happy to have you and show you just how beautiful its surrounding area is.

Conclusion

Thanks to the powerful GGGolf golf management software, Baie-Comeau makes it easy for members and guests to book their tee times. So be sure to make Baie-Comeau a part of your golf season and book your tee time with Minutegolf today!

Five Fun Golf Games You Can Play with a Foursome | golf tee time reservation software

One of the best aspects about golf is that you can often find yourself playing a game within a game. It’s common when you’re waiting to be called to the first tee box for someone in your foursome to ask, “so what game are we playing today?” If you’re fairly new to the game of golf you may not have any real suggestions. This list will provide a brief (very brief) rundown of five popular golf games for a foursome to play. By the end of this article, you will at least be able to provide some suggestions for your group that day. You’ll also be itching to book your next tee time, which is easy thanks to booking with Minutegolf, backed by GGGolf’s golf tee time reservation software

Sixes

“Sixes” is very straightforward and is sometimes referred to as “Round Robin” or “six-six-six.”  Sixes is essentially match play game where you and your assigned partner play against the other two members of your foursome. The game gets its name because it separates the round into three, six-hole matches in which you switch partners after every six holes. This is great because by the end of the round, you have been partnered with each of the other three members of your foursome so it feels very inclusive.

Alternate Shot

This one is great if you are playing with fairly evenly matched teams within a foursome. In alternate shots (often seen in Ryder Cup), you and your partner literally alternate hitting shots (i.e., if you tee off, then your partner hits the next shot, and this goes back and forth until the hole is completed). Whichever team has the lowest strokes to complete the hole, wins a point. This game is not for the faint of heart, but it does elevate the intensity and focus of the typical golf game.

Closest to The Pin

This is a fun side-bet to include within any game. On a Par-3, make a friendly bet for closest to the pin. Each player hits their tee shot and whoever is closest to the hole, wins the bet. Note: The ball closest to the pin must be on the green in order to actually win the bet. If nobody in the group hits the green, then nobody wins. Also, add in the rule that the player closest to the pin loses their bet if they end up three-putting.

Two-Man Scramble

If you don’t care about your individual scores, the two-person scramble is always a fun game to play. Both you and your partner will tee off each hole and will then choose the better tee shot of the two to play your next shots from (i.e., you both hit from the same spot). You repeat this process of choosing the better of your team’s two shots until the hole is completed. The team with the lower score wins the hole.

Skins

The mother of all golf games. Skins is the classic game for any sized group, but there is more action in a foursome skins game. In Skins, each player plays their own ball and adds up their total strokes on each hole. If one person has a score that beats the other three players in the group, they win the skin for that game. If two players tie for the best score on a hole, then the skin carries over to the next hole (i.e., next hole is now worth two skins). Add up the total skins after the round to see who the big winner is.

Other great games to research: Wolf; Bingo, Bango, Bongo; and Nassau.

Golf Software | Take Your Golf Operations To The Next Level

GGGolf is the reference for your golf management needs

When most people think of golf, they think of it as a sport or a hobby. However, unlike most pastimes, golf encompasses so much more. Playing a round of golf is truly an experience, and with so much investment required, both from a mental and financial standpoint, it’s of paramount importance that those providing the venue for this experience deliver in all components. There’s so much more to a golf course than visitors or members coming by to beat their personal scoring record or sink some putts. From the moment they arrive, visitors expect to be well accommodated and to deal with a friendly, well-trained staff.

When you’re running a golf course, you’re not just in the golf business; you’re in the hospitality business. Running a golf course is full of complex operations and departments. You have your course to maintain, tee times to book, pro shops to ensure players are well equipped for their round, professional instructors to encourage players to play more, thus bringing you more revenue and a clubhouse with a restaurant and/or bar to let guests cap their golf day with a good meal and a refreshing drink. You may even be a wedding venue!

With all these departments to manage, you begin to see why the proper golf management software is critical, particularly in an age all about technology and efficiency. The Minutegolf portal is just one component of GGGolf’s software, the golf management system trusted by golf courses all over Quebec and eastern Ontario. There’s much more to GGGolf, though. With GGGolf, your course gets a software product that manages membership, reservation ballots, tournaments, handicap, point of sale, restrictions and much more, truly making it a ‘whole in one’ software system.

Five Golf Tips To Improve The Pace of Play _ golf management software

The PGA Tour has an issue that has been brewing for a long time: a very slow pace of play.  Some professional players are incredibly slow golfers in competitive rounds, which is understandable to an extent given that they are playing for millions of dollars. But for golfers like Brooks Koepka, slow play can be extremely frustrating to deal with. In fact, Koepka was vocal about slow players during the 2019 British Open that included him playing with J.B. Holmes, one of golf’s most notorious slow players. Koepka’s frustration caused him to walk off the green while Holmes was taking his time on a short putt and then later gestured at a PGA official that they needed to warn Holmes for the slow pace of play.

Unfortunately, slow pace of play doesn’t only haunt the PGA Tour, but also affects us common golfers on a weekly basis. The average pace of play for a normal round of golf is four hours, but surely we have all been exposed to those dreaded five to six hours rounds that seem to last forever. If you have never dreaded a slow pace of play, then maybe you are a slow player yourself. If so, no worries because this article is here to provide five tips for all players that will help improve the pace of play. Don’t make Koepka mad . . . keep your pace of play quick with these tips:

1. Be Prepared When It’s Your Turn to Hit

One of Koepka’s biggest gripes is how so many players on the PGA Tour wait until it’s their turn before they start preparing to hit. Instead, Koepka already has his yardage, club selection and glove on by the time it’s his turn to play. Be like Koepka and be ready to play when it’s your turn to hit.

2. Play Ready Golf

The most common rule of pace of play for most golf courses is that you must play “ready golf.”  Ready golf means that whoever is ready to hit may make the next play. If you’re ready to hit your drive, then hit your drive first. If you are first to your ball in the fairway, don’t feel obligated to wait to hit while your playing partner is searching for their ball. Instead, hit first and then offer to help find their ball.

3. Three Minute Ball Search

On the topic of searching for a lost ball, the USGA recently amended the rules to allow only three minutes to search for a ball before deeming it lost. So please keep to this rule and give yourself approximately 3 minutes to find a ball before playing it as a lateral hazard and taking a drop.

4. Keep the Flag Stick In

Another rule change the USGA made this year was to allow the flag stick to remain in the cup while putting out without a penalty. This was designed specifically to help improve the pace of play. If putting with the flag stick doesn’t bother you, leave it in!

Be Generous with Gimme Putts

Unless you are playing in a prestigious tournament or for extreme pride, be generous with the short putts. Allow the rule before the round starts that the group will concede any putt within two or three feet. This tip can be a fun addition to a friendly game and can really help keep the pace of play moving in a steady fashion.

Golfer and caddie _ golf handicap software

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to play a round of golf with your very own caddie much like the professional tour players do? Well, I can tell you from experience that it is fantastic and is certainly something every golfer should experience at least once. While not every golf course offers a caddie program, many nice golf courses do provide caddie options for an additional price.  While that additional price may scare some golfers away, there are several advantages that make it totally worth it. So the next time you book a tee time, inquire with your golf course about possibly getting a caddie by your side. Here are just a few specific advantages that come when getting a caddie.

You’ll Shoot A Better Score

If you are playing a course that you haven’t played before, having a caddie will 100% help you shoot a lower score. Not only does the caddie have extensive knowledge of the golf course, they will also watch and track your own game and make recommendations based on what they are seeing. Yes, a good caddie will watch your warm-up on the range and customize how you should play each specific shot on each hole. They will also provide you with perfect reads on the putting green to ensure each putt is started on a perfect line. It’s incredibly helpful.

They Do All the Extra Work

A great advantage of having a caddie is that you are able to focus purely on your golf game, while the caddie will handle everything else. No need to rake the bunker or fill your divots anymore, the caddie will handle all of those tedious tasks for you. It’s surprising how much better you can play when all you have to do is focus on the next shot.

Help Finding Your Ball

If you’re like me, you can definitely hit a few (okay, quite a few) errant shots every round. A good caddie will be excellent in tracking your ball flight and seeing the ball down to the ground.  Many times, they are able to pinpoint where your ball landed and help assist you in what would normally be a lost ball situation. This advantage alone can shave several strokes off your scorecard.

They Keep a Nice Pace of Play

Caddies act as agents for the golf course and will ensure that the course maintains a nice pace of play. In doing so, they approach each tee box with a specific goal in their mind for how you should play that hole. By the end of the round, the caddie will know your tendencies and will have the correct club already picked out for you prior to each shot. This provides a little extra boost of confidence that can go a long way.

Forecaddies Are Also Available

A forecaddie is a caddie that is hired by a foursome to be the designated caddie for the entire group. This is a more budget-friendly option and is one that is still well worth the extra monetary investment.

They Make the Round More Fun

Lastly, caddies just make the golf round more enjoyable with their presence and the dialogue they provide. Many caddies are either current or former collegiate/semi-pro players that just love the game of golf and will talk golf all round long (if you’d like). They also have great stories to help keep the day feeling light. Plus, as mentioned, they help you play better too which always makes the round more enjoyable. Don’t believe me? Hire a caddie for your next round and see for yourself!

Golf Instructor _ golf management software

If you are ready to take your golf game to the next level, the best way to do so is to start working with a golf instructor who can fine tune your swing and provide a significant boost of confidence in your game. While practicing on your own by playing as many golf games as possible is a great start to getting better, there is just so much more you can learn, at a quicker pace, from a professional. The trick is finding an instructor that is not only knowledgeable but is also somebody that you can feel comfortable with. But where does one even begin when looking to find a golf instructor and, more importantly, how can they determine if that instructor is the right fit for their goals? If you’re ready to start working with an instructor to really improve your golf game, follow these four tips to ensure that you make the right selection.

1. Use Your Network to Ask For Referrals

If you have a group of golf buddies, they are a perfect place to begin your search as they can provide you with referrals to their golf instructors (at least the ones that have received lessons before). The best part of this is that you can get real, in-person feedback on the pros and cons of the specific instructor that they have used. Beware, however, as people can be biased towards their golf instructors. Because of this, you should also keep any eye on the referring friends own swing/golf ability in order to determine whether or not you would want to work with their same instructor.

2. Ask Your Local Golf Course Clubhouse

If there is a golf course in your area that you enjoy, set up a time to meet with their resident course instructor so that you can pick up a vibe on his or her teaching styles. If you are a regular at a course, the instructors will get to know better and adjust their lessons accordingly. The other good perk of working with your local course is that the lessons are close to home and very convenient.

3. Start with a Group Lesson

This tip is especially applicable to those out there that are beginner golfers as group lessons are often very affordable and are structured in a way that focuses on the fundamentals only. While it may seem strange taking a lesson with 5 or 6 other individuals, don’t fret it. Most group lessons are designed for beginners so everybody will be on roughly the same skill-level. This is a great, cheap option to finding an instructor and maybe even making some new golf friends from the group.

4. Trust Your Instincts

Lastly, I want to be clear that you should always trust your instincts when choosing a new golf instructor. If you don’t feel comfortable or disagree with their teaching philosophy, then stay true to yourself and find a new instructor. Comfort and trust are two huge aspects in working with an instructor, so always, always, always trust your gut feeling when making your evaluation.

Club de golf Buckingam - golf tee time reservation software

Unique challenges on each hole keeps golfers on their toes

A golf course doesn’t operate for over 80 years without doing something right. Buckingham Golf Club has been pleasing golfers of all levels since 1933 with a golf course that’s matured beautifully and of course, has remained well maintained. Unforgettable moments are promised when you choose to play a round here, as Buckingham’s atmosphere never fails to disappoint members and visitors.

Let’s take a look at what Buckingham’s course has to offer.

Buckingham’s Course

Golf Buckingham - golf handicap software

Buckingham’s setting in the Gatineau region lends itself to a captivating atmosphere. The natural beauty of the area mesmerizes all golfers and just enhances your experience. Whether you’re a beginner or bordering on professional, playing Buckingham requires a lot of precision. The par-71 course has four tee markers, ranging from 5,102 to 6,341 total yards.

  • Blue - 6,341 yards
  • White - 6,013 yards
  • Gold - 5,433 yards
  • Red - 5,102 yards

Before playing this course, it would be prudent of you to check out Buckingham’s website, as they provide you a description of each hole. This will show you what each hole looks like and what kind of obstacles/challenges you’ll face.

While Buckingham’s challenges will keep you guessing, their last hole lets you end your score on a high (or low!) note. The 18th hole is one of the shorter ones on the course, allowing you to take in the area’s spectacular view on the pavilion. This hole is your best shot at a birdie, with the short par 4 giving you an elevated tee box. Taking your tee shot from the left hand side of the fairway will help you avoid a string of fairway bunkers on the right. So with a comprehensive description available for you to study in advance, all that’s left is actually making your shots!

Competitive Rates

Buckingham golf keeps their rates reasonable for visitors and don’t spike up prices on weekends. Grabbing a tee time before 5:00 PM starts at $37 on weekdays and is only slightly bumped to $39 on weekends. From Friday to Monday after 1:00 PM, you can even get a round with a golf cart for just $37. Playing after 5:00 PM any day brings your tee time price down to as low as $17, and just $28.50 with a cart. Additional information on tee time rates are available on Buckingham’s website. Also be sure to check out minutegolf’s Deals section regularly, as Buckingham regularly offers discounts on select days.

Buckingham’s History

With 86 years of history, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take some time to acknowledge Buckingham’s beginnings and what it has grown into today. Buckingham started as a private club in 1933 with just a 9 hole layout. It was originally owned by a business in the area, who formed the club merely to provide employees a recreational area outside of working hours. It would take some time before the course was opened to the public. Even though the course now caters to both guests and members, Buckingam hasn’t forgotten their roots as a small gathering place, which is why they’ve maintained their intimate, family like atmosphere after all these years.

In 1987, the course was doubled to a full-18 hole course. Eight original holes were formed and the course was reconfigured to a logical, enjoyable layout that the course maintains today.

Pro Shop and Other Features of Buckingham

No golf course is complete without a fully equipped pro shop and a reliable pro on hand. The course’s professional, Eric Robillard, is on hand to organize a golf game for you and your group. He also offers a range of services including private lessons, whether individually or in a group.

Be sure to practice on the course’s green terrain, where you could improve your swing and perfect your sway shots. You could practice on either the artificial turf or natural grass surface.

Finally, when you’re finished your round of golf, be sure to hit the course’s club house, or as they like to call it, The 19th Hole. The club house was renovated just a few years ago and is now equipped to host more than 200 guests. This makes it the ideal setting for tournaments and other occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas parties.

Conclusion

Are you ready for a round of golf yet? Don’t delay in booking your tee time at Buckingham. You won’t be disappointed and its intimate setting will make you feel right at home.

Competing in Golf Tournaments _ golf software companies

So you’ve been spending a lot of time at the golf course working on your swing, your short game, and putting. While at the course, you see start to take notice of the signs in the pro-shops advertising weekend tournaments and it now has you wondering whether you’re ready to begin competing in those tournaments.

Well, there is no true way of knowing if your game is “tournament ready” without first going out and giving it a try. But there is a checklist (below) that you can go through and help analyze if you’re ready to win some glory (and possibly some tournament prizes!)

You’re Able to Limit Your Three Putts

One of the biggest differences in tournament golf, compared to just friendly practice rounds, is that you must make every putt. In other words, there are no “gimmies” in tournament play. Putting in general is one of the most important aspects of tournament play and is what separates the best players from the rest of the pack. Those that can limit their three-putts in a round can usually find themselves posting good rounds. If you’re struggling with your putter, you might want to dial it in before taking your game to the competitive level.

Do You Get Nervous On the First Tee?

The first tee shot is one of the most commonly nerve-wracking shots for amateur golfers. Not only is it the official start to your round, but the first tee is usually in place near the clubhouse where other golfers will be watching you. If the thought of that makes your hand sweat or you commonly find yourself taking a mulligan off the first tee, you might want to think twice about entering a tournament, for now. While there will always be nerves on the first tee of tournaments, you can help address this by finding ways to create high-stress practice situations on the range.

Do You Have an Official Handicap?

Most tournaments will require an official/certified handicap in order to compete and/or correctly rank you into a flight. A handicap is essentially your “average” over par for each round. The minimum requirement to create a handicap is logging your score for five consecutive rounds. So definitely figure out your handicap before entering a tournament.

Are Your Scores (Fairly) Consistent?

Speaking of handicaps, do you score roughly the same range when you play (i.e., 80-85; 90-93, etc...). Everybody has blow-up rounds from time to time, but if you’re able to stay pretty consistent with your scoring, that’s usually a good sign that you can compete well in most tournaments. In the least, it provides you with a good gauge to see how tournament play affects your style of golf and overall scores.

Are You Ready to Go Outside of Your Comfort Zone?

If you’re ready to try something new and want to take your golf game to the next level, then it’s time to go ahead and give it a shot (as long as you feel comfortable with the other four items on this list). Hopefully you book tee times as often as possible, and practice, but tournaments are obviously, another level. It will be different, but I’m confident that you will love playing in tournaments. Golf Château-Bromont _ golf software

Spring arrived fairly late this year in the Quebec region, but the good news is, summer is here and golf season is at its peak! While many of us golfers are creatures of habit, and may stick to certain courses near us, it’s worth taking a little trip to try new courses. After all, one way of getting better at golf is to try different courses and keep challenging yourself. Quebec is full of diverse courses and whether you’re looking for a course full of bodies of water or you prefer a heavily forested course, you can find what you’re looking for. The common theme that all golfers want from their course of choice is quality, which is what Golf Château-Bromont offers.

If you’re from the metropolitan area, you’re in luck as the course is only a 45 minute drive from the Montreal area. Château-Bromont offers more than golf, as its quaint setting in the Eastern Townships gives you the opportunity to stay at their hotel, relax at the spa or book special events. However, its championship style golf course is the true eye candy of the land.

Château-Bromont is a certified championship course, designed by renowned architects Howard Watson and Graham Cook. Its spectacular setting attracts golfers from all over, and the course is very welcoming to golfers of all levels. With five tee markers on every hole, you can challenge yourself accordingly. The par 72 course ranges from a total of 5,132 yards playing from the red and green tees, to 6,687 yards from the gold tee markers.

If you want to book a tee time and not rush back home, the Château-Bromont will ensure you’re comfortable extending your stay, as they offer a variety of golf packages, which include an overnight stay with your golf round, as well as meals and even wine tastings at nearby vineyards. All of a sudden, your one tee time can be turned into an entire weekend!

Eco-Friendly Golf Course _ golf software

Golf courses are some of the most beautiful, serene, and luscious landscapes available in most communities. It’s the reason why so many people pay big bucks to live in houses that overlook a course’s beautiful green fairways and calm lakes. But golf courses are a source of a lot of water, pesticides, and energy usage. However, there are ways in which golf courses can set a good example as far as affecting the environment.

The three simple buzzwords for implementing a basic green friendly plan are “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.” Following those three concepts can bring a golf course a long way in becoming more environmentally friendly. Below are five sustainable ideas that incorporate those three basic concepts in relation to a golf course.

Composting (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)

A staple of many eco-friendly business plans is to find a way to turn waste into a sustainable source and one of the easiest ways to start is to create a compost. Compost is a process that recycles organic waste (such as leftover food) and ultimately produces a soil conditioner that is rich in nutrients. By setting up a compost for the trash that is produced in the golf course restaurant and then using that composted soil as fertilizer, a golf course would already be off to a solid start in going greener.

Solar Energy (Reduce & Reuse)

Solar energy is a very clean source of energy and is generally abundant in most areas of a golf course. By implementing solar panels on the clubhouse and golf cart barn, they could re-charge their electric golf carts via cleaner energy. Another, more radical, idea is to implement solar panels on each of the golf carts themselves, which would be very innovative.

Less Water Usage (“Reduce”)

This is the holy grail for sustainability within golf courses, but is also one of the hardest to implement as golf courses require a lot of water to function. Many golf courses have addressed the water usage issues by making the common areas (i.e., the areas of the course that aren’t meant to be played on) mulch, rock, or dirt. Not only does this cut down on water usage, but it can also create beautiful landscaping opportunities. As far as the bottom line, it can also save the golf course a ton of money.

While we’re on the subject of water, you may have noticed some clubs have stopped selling disposable water bottles, as more and more businesses aim to reduce the use of plastic. For you as a golfer, you could help by getting into the habit of bringing your own reusable bottle.

Improve Water Irrigation (“Reuse”)

If a course is unable to cut down on their overall water usage, then it should at least attempt at trying to install a recycled water irrigation system. A water recycling system for irrigation would help ensure that there is cleaner water and cleaner run-off (assuming they are also implementing organic fertilizers) emptying back into the water features on the course that is then recycled back into the irrigation system.

Course Recycling Program (“Recycle”)

Let’s finish this piece with going back to the roots of going greener and that is by implementing better course-wide recycling programs. This can be done by providing more recycling containers and instructions on what items are to be recycled and what is not. Get your employees engaged by offering gift cards or rewards for the staff department (i.e., pro-shop; kitchen staff; maintenance) that recycle the most/best.
